  • Part 1 Exploring the Art of Character — Wednesday, February 4

The purpose of a story is for the reader to hook arms with a character and walk together into an adventure—to imagine, envision, care, and feel. The writer uses a character to persuade readers to experience life from a different point of view. Not only does the reader enter the character’s personality, but also finds a bit of him/herself in the character’s pursuit to solve a problem or reach a goal.

  • Part 2 Exploring the Art of Plot — Wednesday, February 11

Plotting is an art, a skillful expression of a writer’s creativity and imagination. It’s aesthetic, evocative, and invokes powerful emotions through the action of three-dimensional character who are striving to achieve a goal. A story is birthed when a writer develops a hero or heroine who accepts the challenge of whatever is ahead. The character’s trek through the carefully crafted pages is called the plot or storyline, and each step is filled with unforeseen action which propels the story forward. The plot becomes the series of events leading toward a climax and resolution.
