About the event
MICHAEL BRACKEN provides an insider’s look at anthologies, how they are conceived and pitched, and how editors acquire content. He will provide tips, tricks, and techniques to help students craft a compelling short story and make the most of anthology publication opportunities.
Bracken is an Edgar Award and Shamus Award finalist and three-time Derringer Award recipient. Author of almost 1,300 short stories, including more than 150 stories published in The Best American Mystery Stories, The Best Mystery Stories of the Year, and other anthologies. Additionally, Bracken is the editor of Black Cat Mystery Magazine and editor or co-editor of three dozen anthologies, including the Derringer Award winner and Anthony Award finalist Murder, Neat; the Anthony Award finalist The Eyes of Texas; and the Anthony Award finalist Scattered, Smothered, Covered, and Chunked. He is a recipient of the Short Mystery Fiction Society’s Golden Derringer for Lifetime Achievement and, in 2024, was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters for his contributions to Texas literature.
