CLASS 66: The Character Guide to Mental Disorders

If you’re not a clinician, it can be difficult to transfer descriptions of mental disorders from psychological manuals to fictional characters. This class will demonstrate multiple disorders with characters from fiction or film.

Dr. Katherine Ramsland teaches forensic psychology and behavioral criminology in the graduate program at DeSales University, where she is professor emerita. She consulted for CSI, Bones, Woman of the Hour, and The Alienist, has appeared as an expert on more than 300 crime documentaries and podcasts, and was an executive producer on Murder House Flip, A&E’s docuseries Confession of a Serial killer: BTK, and ID/HBO’s docuseries The Serial Killer’s Apprentice. The author or co-author of more than 2,000 articles and 76 books, including Confession of a Serial Killer, The Serial Killer’s Apprentice, The Mind of a Murderer, The Psychology of Death Investigations, and How to Catch a Killer, she hosts a Substack and pens a regular blog for Psychology Today. She has also written a crime fiction series about a female forensic psychologist, Annie Hunter. Riding and horse care are how she unwinds from analyzing dark minds. Her most recent book is a memoir, Dark Places: My Secret Life with Killers.
