Before diving into another year of content creation, take a moment to pause. December  is the perfect time to reflect, review what’s working, and make small but mighty tweaks  to your strategy.

Whether you posted every week or barely touched your social media, this check-in is for you.

1. Review Your Wins

Scroll back through your content from the past year and look for high points. Which  posts:

  • Got the most engagement?

  • Brought in new followers?

  • Sparked real conversations?

  • Felt the most you?

Write down your top 5. These are your content sweet spots, and they’re worth repeating  in the new year.

2. Look at Your Numbers (Without Stressing)

Don’t get lost in vanity metrics. Instead, focus on meaningful data:

  • Did your audience grow steadily?

  • Which content formats (videos, carousels, stories) performed best?  • What days or times brought more engagement?

Use these insights to guide your 2026 content plan, but don’t let the numbers boss you  around.

3. Reflect on What Didn’t Work

Which posts flopped, and more importantly, why?

Sometimes it’s timing, sometimes it’s messaging, sometimes it’s an election period,  sometimes it’s the holiday or back-to-school season, and sometimes it’s just a one-off.  And reviewing what didn’t click can help you avoid burnout and wasted effort next year.

4. Revisit Your Goals

What was your original intention with social media this year?

  • Build community?

  • Sell more books?

  • Show up more consistently?

Now’s the time to assess your progress and recalibrate. If your goals shifted (or never  got set), that’s okay. Use this reflection to set realistic, aligned goals for the year ahead.

Final Thought

Social media doesn’t require perfection; it needs purpose. The more clarity you bring  into the new year, the more confident and creative your content will feel.  You don’t need a complete overhaul. You need a plan that fits you. Start there.
